What exactly is a design concept?

A design concept is an illustrative homepage mock-up we've built to show how we'd approach a website for a particular type of business. It demonstrates layout, messaging structure, functionality and visual style tailored to that industry, but it isn't a live client site. Every business name, phone number, testimonial and photo you see is a placeholder used to make the concept feel real enough to judge properly. Think of it as a design conversation starter rather than a finished product, giving you something concrete to react to before we start work on your actual site.

Are the concepts real client websites?

Accepted Answer

No. None of the businesses shown in our design concepts exist, and no client details, results or content are used. Real client work, including outcomes we can genuinely stand behind, lives at /portfolio. We keep these two things clearly separate because it matters that you can trust what's a demonstration and what's proven work we've delivered for an actual paying client. Why does Mojo Mesh publish design concepts at all?

Accepted Answer

Industries differ enormously in what their websites need to do. A pool builder needs a gallery and finance information, a migration agent needs multilingual content and trust signals, an NDIS provider needs accessibility built in from the start. Publishing a concept for each industry lets us show that thinking in a tangible way rather than describing it in the abstract. It also gives prospective clients in that field something specific to point at during an early conversation, so we can talk about what to keep, change or drop rather than starting from a blank page.

Can I just have the concept built as my website?

Accepted Answer

Not exactly as shown, because the concept is built around a placeholder business with invented content and stock-style imagery. What you can do is use it as the starting layout and structure for your project, then we replace every piece of content with your actual brand, services, service areas, photography and calls to action. In practice a lot of the section order and functionality often carries through largely intact, because it was chosen to suit the industry rather than the fictional business, but the finished site will look and read like yours, not like the concept.

How much would change to turn a concept into a real business website?

Accepted Answer

More than you might expect at first glance. Every word of copy gets rewritten around your services, tone and location, all imagery is replaced with your own photography or appropriately licensed images, and your branding, colours and logo take over from the concept's placeholder styling. We'll also revisit the functionality once we understand your business properly, adding or removing tools like quote calculators, booking systems or galleries as needed. The layout logic and structural thinking behind the concept is often the part that survives most intact, since that's based on how customers in your industry actually make decisions.

Which platform would a concept actually be built on for me?

Accepted Answer

The concepts themselves are built to demonstrate design and structure rather than to lock you into a particular platform. We work across WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Squarespace and AI-powered custom builds, and we choose whichever suits your business, budget and the functionality you need rather than pushing a house preference. If you're drawn to a concept, one of the first things we'll talk through is which platform makes sense for your situation, whether that's e-commerce requirements, content volume, or how much you want to manage yourself day to day.

I can't find a concept for my industry. Does that mean you don't work with businesses like mine?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. We add design concepts progressively and can't cover every industry at once, but our approach to messaging, user experience, conversion and search visibility applies just as well to fields we haven't built a concept for yet. If you don't see your industry here, get in touch and describe your business; we can talk through comparable concepts that share similar challenges, such as service-area coverage or quote-based enquiries, and use those as a reference point while we plan something built specifically around you.

Do the concepts include SEO and technical thinking, or just visual design?

Accepted Answer

Both. Each concept is built with search visibility in mind, including how the page structure supports the kinds of local and service-based searches that industry typically attracts, and where service or location pages would sit around the homepage in a full build. It's not just a pretty layout; it reflects decisions about page speed, mobile behaviour, accessibility and how content is structured for search engines. When we scope a real project we go deeper on keyword research and site architecture, but the concept shows the foundation that thinking sits on.

How do these concepts help when I ask for a quote?

Looking through a concept before you contact us gives us a shared starting point and saves time in the first conversation. Rather than describing what you're after from scratch, you can point to what you liked or didn't about a relevant concept, whether that's the booking flow, the gallery layout or the tone of the copy. That context helps us scope your project more accurately and put together a realistic quote sooner, because we already understand the type of functionality and content structure you're likely to need.

Who designs and writes the concepts?

Our own team builds each concept the same way we'd approach a real client brief: researching how that industry's customers typically search, compare and decide, then designing a homepage structure and writing placeholder copy that reflects genuine best practice for that field. It's not generic template content dressed up with a new logo. That's also why the concepts vary so much from one industry to the next, since a financial planner and a landscaper have very different customers, decision timelines and trust requirements.
